Company: The American Legion
Location: Gray, Tennessee, United States

Robert W. Hensley, a member of the National Executive Committee of The American Legion, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of veterans’ advocacy.

Committed to imparting a legacy of leadership and service on behalf of his community, Mr. Hensley has distinguished himself as a member of the National Executive Committee of the American Legion, a nonprofit organization of U.S. war veterans that has sought to promote Americanism and civic virtue since its founding in 1919. Raised to his current role in 2021, Mr. Hensley has previously served in numerous roles of high leadership on behalf of the organization, including as a past commander of the Department of Tennessee, during which time he lobbied with local and national lawmakers on behalf of veterans throughout the state. Other positions to his credit have included his initial work as the first district commander from 2009 until 2010, and as the vice commander of Eastern Tennessee from 2010 to 2011. In honor of his inimitable efforts, Mr. Hensley was notably bestowed with a Rising Star Award by the organization.

A veteran in his own right, Mr. Hensley served as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1967 until 1988, and currently avails himself as part of the local Honor Guard in Johnson County, Tennessee. In addition, he has worked within the community as a volunteer at the Johnson County Senior Center, and is a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He first became interested in joining the American Legion due to the influence of his father, who served during World War II and was a part of the organization in his own right. With the help of his mentors, including Don Mathis, Richard Dion and the late David Alexander, Mr. Hensley was able to rise up the ranks as well. Among his most cherished accomplishments in this regard, he is simply proud to have had the opportunity to provide service for his fellow veterans.
