For many of us, this final month of the year is centered around various holiday celebrations. While these kinds of events and gatherings can be filled with delight, they can also bring on a fair amount of stress.
Last year, I felt like the more I did to prepare for the holidays, the more enjoyable the season would be. I didn’t even fully realize how depleted I’d become until I reflected on the season afterward.
This month on Wit & Delight, our theme is all about seeking more moments of joy.
In a season that often causes a lot of stress, it’s about considering how we can make the not-so-great parts—family tension, money worries, loneliness, or something else entirely—a little more manageable. It’s about considering what we can let go of in our lives to make more room for joy.
I think a part of bringing more joy into our lives is getting to know exactly what sparks joy for us in the first place. These feelings of delight will be brought on by different things for different people. Intentionally acknowledging what sparks joy for you is a great first step toward bringing more of those moments into your life.
Joy won’t be possible at all times and in all phases of life, but I still hope we can seek out moments of joy, even in the tiniest of ways, this December.
It’s also worth noting that the idea of joy can feel particularly polarizing, especially for those who are struggling with mental health issues. When it seems like joy is all around but it feels difficult to access, it can be deeply frustrating. Joy won’t be possible at all times and in all phases of life, but I still hope we can seek out moments of joy, even in the tiniest of ways, this December.
I’m excited to share more on this theme on Wit & Delight throughout the month ahead!
