John Robinson Block, Vice Chairman of Block Communications, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Toledo Blade, and Editor-in-Chief of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in print and electronic media.
An accomplished media and communications executive, Mr. Block has excelled as the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Toledo Blade since 1990. He has also been the editor-in-chief of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette since 1993. In addition, Mr. Block has found success as the vice chairman of Block Communications since 2003. Prior to these positions, he garnered experience as the co-publisher, executive editor, assistant managing editor, Sunday editor, European correspondent and Washington correspondent with the Toledo Blade. He was also previously the publisher and co-publisher of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Block graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1977. In 2005, he was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from the Medical College of Ohio. He maintains membership with the National Press Club, the Grolier Club, the Rowfant Club, the Toledo Club, the Inverness Club and the Yale Club. In his spare time, Mr. Block enjoys aviation, rare book collecting, photography and cooking.
