With decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Boyd is currently retired, having most recently excelled as a piping designer for FCRV Park until his retirement in 2014. Prior to this position, he was active as a piping design contractor for a number of years. Moreover, he was formerly affiliated with the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology. Between 1975 and 1979, Mr. Boyd served as a draftsman and an air cargo specialist in the U.S. Air Force, a tenure during which he visited 11 countries and 37 states.
Drawn to his field after suffering an injury during his military service, Mr. Boyd was proud to have built his career from the ground up, having advanced from a low-paying hourly position to a post commanding a salary of more than $100,000 per year. Among the many highlights of his career, he fondly recalls donating a $5,000 cartridge box badge from the 71st Regiment of Foot to the Augusta Museum of History. He was also notably highlighted on the PBS television series “History Detectives” in 2006, an appearance in which his diving escapes and historical artifact discoveries were profiled. Designated as a Master Scuba Diver for his 15 years of diving experience, Mr. Boyd is proud to have been celebrated as the Scuba Diver of the Year by the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology.
