Dalata Group to open first Maldron hotel in London – Business Traveller

Irish hotel group Dalata has announced plans to open the first London property under its Maldron brand.

The group has purchased a “new finished hotel, which has never traded” in Finsbury Park, for £44.3 million.

Dalata plans to invest a further £2 million to enhance the property, before it opens this summer.

The hotel will feature 192 rooms, as well as a ground floor lobby, restaurant and bar.

The property’s location at 240 Seven Sisters Road means it is within walking distance of the Emirates Stadium, and next to Finsbury Park Station, with links to National Rail, Underground and bus services.

Dalata said that the building had been constructed using “the Vision Modular System, which can result in as much as a 40 per cent saving in the embodied carbon emissions when compared with traditional methods of construction”.

It will be the 18th Maldron property in the UK, but Dalata’s first in London. In 2019 we reported that the group was planning to open a Maldron hotel in London’s Shoreditch, and the property currently shows on the group’s website under the “Coming soon” section.

Commenting on the news Dermot Crowley, CEO, Dalata, said:

“London is a key strategic growth market for Dalata. We are very excited to be opening our first Maldron hotel in the city in advance of our Maldron in Shoreditch which is currently under construction.

“This acquisition represents an outstanding opportunity to operate a new, sustainably built, hotel in a vibrant and developing area as we continue our ambitious UK expansion plan.

“The strength of our balance sheet has been a crucial element in enabling us to make this investment as we continue to create value for all of our stakeholders.”

Dalata describes the Maldron brand as a collection of three and four-star hotels in Ireland and the United Kingdom, offering “convenient locations, affordable rates, spacious bedrooms, state-of-the-art leisure centres, gourmet dining, award-winning service and lots more”.
