Bret O’Neal, Director of EV, ADAS & Software at AVL, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sustainable energy and electric vehicle development.

With more than 15 years of experience to his credit, Mr. O’Neal has excelled as the director of electric vehicles, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and software for the Ford account with AVL since 2021. In this position, he supports the engineering teams and brings new technology regarding electric vehicles and self-driving technology to the market. Prior to these positions, he served as a strategic account manager for NXP Semiconductors from 2018 to 2021, senior business development manager and a global account manager for Flex from 2016 to 2018, business-to-business lead for Plugless with Evatran Group from 2015 to 2016, the senior account executive for ENGIE Storage in 2015, the sales director for ChargePoint from 2012 to 2015, and the inside sales manager, channel manager and an account executive with Tesla from 2007 to 2012. Beyond his primary responsibilities, Mr. O’Neal has been active as a volunteer crew member with GRID Alternatives since 2015, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity International since 2006 and an electric vehicle consultant for such companies as McKinsey & Co, GLG, proSapient and AlphaSights.

Drawn to his field after being exposed to electric vehicles while frequently attending car shows during his formative years, Mr. O’Neal pursued an education at the University of Hartford, from which he graduated as a valedictorian from the School of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2007. He has attributed his professional success to his passion for sustainability, his wealth of experience and his extraordinary ability to move and thrive in various areas of renewable energy, including solar charging infrastructure, stationary energy storage, utility applications, and microchip manufacturing. As a testament to his exceptional endeavors, he was presented with the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Hartford, where he was honorably appointed to the Dean’s Advisory Panel. Looking toward the future, Mr. O’Neal hopes to run an electric vehicle division of either Ford Motor Company or The General Motors Company.
